Reflection on Oral Presentation

Preparation

During our group's slide preparation, I was appointed to be the first speaker. At first, I was a bit hesitant to take up the role since Mrs.Radhika told us that the first and last speaker have the most important role and I was afraid that I will ruin the presentation if I didn't do well. However, I decided to take up the role in the end since my group mates knew the other parts better than I am and I also understand my part better.

We didn't rehearse together before our dry-run presentation and decided that we rehearse on our own. However, after the feedback received from the dry-run presentation, we decided that we need to have a rehearsal together before the actual presentation. During the rehearsal, we took particular attention in our timings as well as the important points that we want to emphasize so that it can convince the audience on our proposal. Aside from that, I also spent a lot of time doing rehearsals on my own, with the mirror as my main assistance. It helps me a lot in building my confidence and improving the appropriate expressions.

Delivery

My presentation would have been better if I could slow down my pace and take some pauses as suggested by Mrs. Radhika and my fellow classmates. Nevertheless, I felt that I could managed my pace better and presented my content in a more organized way than in the dry-run. In fact, I had cut a lot of less important parts in the actual presentation so that I didn't have to rush over the content and finished my presentation on time. Besides that, I think I have to practise for a better pronounciation as sometimes I realised that I pronounce some words wrongly.

Use of slideware

Overall, I believe that our group have tried our best to produce an effective powerpoint slides. We managed to make good use of the animation to help us in presenting our points. Besides that, we also make use of it to highlight certain important parts, for example, the figures in the statistics provided in our slides. We also included some interactive images related to the content of our slides to make the slides more lively and attractive. The use of the wireless presenter has also helped us to manage our slides well.

Comments on other groups:

For Sin Wei, Li Koon and Seng Leng's group, I believe that you have done much better than the dry-run. Your group had a better organization of the contents and a more organized and attractive slides than before. Each of you also has a better understanding of the content and more confident than before.

For Xiu Xian, Charles and Ying Hui's group, you have done better than the dry-run. I could see that each of you have a better slides coordination with what you presented. Your group also had a better confidence during the presentation  even though I could still notice some nervousness for some of your group members. Nevertheless, you have done a wonderful presentation.

In conclusion, I have learned a lot from these oral presentations. I really appreciate the feedback from our tutors and friends. It really helps me understand which part I need to work on for further improvements. As the proverb says "Practice makes perfect", I believe that we can improve our shortcomings by keep on practising.

  2. I was told that three golden rules of delivering an excellent presentation is practice, practice and practice. Throuhg our working on a few same assignments, I found you are really hardworking and diligent. As we are both foregin students, it is more difficult for us to achieve excellence in oral preseantations, public speaking and professional communication. So we need to practice more, practice more and practice more! :D Good luck and keep on improving yourself!

  3. I agree too that practice is crucial for any success. Just like the saying that goes "if you don't use it, you lose it", that is if we do not practice consistently one day we would eventually forget how to do it.

All the best for the final exam =)
